Given the worldwide impact of various political (e.g., tariffs, wars, sanctions), social (e.g., migration, international tourism, foreign digital nomadism), and technological (e.g., international social media connectivity, AI, cloud computing platforms) phenomena, entrepreneurship is inherently global. Nevertheless, much entrepreneurship research continues to rely on country-bounded assumptions that miss how these increasingly ubiquitous phenomena shape entrepreneurship at its various levels (e.g., individual-, team-, firm-, and ecosystem). Even research on international entrepreneurship (IE) largely focuses on the cross-national border expansion of new ventures and on comparing entrepreneurship across countries. Thus, it largely misses the examination of how global phenomena shape entrepreneurship. Building on the ideas developed in a recent editorial by Fernhaber and Schwens (2026), this PDW stems from a simple but consequential premise: entrepreneurship is inherently global, meaning that global phenomena impact entrepreneurial actors (e.g., individuals, teams, firms, ecosystems) and their behaviors. With this proposed PDW, we invite entrepreneurship scholars to reconsider how they frame their research problems, select settings, and build theory by examining the influences generated by global phenomena. Through a moderated panel and lively discussion, we will examine how existing and emerging political, social, and technological phenomena, seemingly agnostic to country borders, are shaping core areas of entrepreneurship research. The session is designed for the broader entrepreneurship community and aims to generate new research directions, spark interdisciplinary connections, and build a shared vision for expanding the scope of entrepreneurship scholarship to reflect the realities shaping it through contemporary global phenomena.
