Meet new IE Ambassador: Jukyeong (Judy) Han

ie-Scholars is excited to welcome our new IE Ambassador for South Korea, Dr. Jukyeong (Judy) Han (DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University). A brief interview with Judy is below.

Question: What are your key areas of research?

My research lies at the intersection of international business, entrepreneurship, and strategic management. Specifically, within this intersection, I mainly study international entrepreneurship, location choice, startup growth, and immigrant entrepreneurship.

Question: What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on several projects regarding location choice of international new ventures (INVs) and their implications, such as the independent effect of location and network on INVs’ access to resources globally. Based on my dissertation, I am also examining the time and environmental effects on young firm growth—for example, how temporal dimensions across countries influence growth implications for young firms. I also have projects on immigrant entrepreneurship through the lens of international business and international entrepreneurship, aiming to provide novel insights into immigrant entrepreneurship.

Question: What are a few of your personal hobbies?

I have been doing Pilates for years, and I recently started running. Every Saturday morning, I join ParkRun—a global community that organizes free 5km runs. It is my way of staying healthy and having fun!

Question: What advice would you give to someone new to IE research?

Welcome to IE field! Since the field is interdisciplinary in nature, being familiar with both literatures will not only contribute to IE but also to international business and entrepreneurship. It is also helpful to keep in mind that IE research carries strong practical relevance, offering valuable insights for entrepreneurs, policymakers, and organizations supporting international ventures.

Question: Where will we see you next? (Conference?)

I will be attending the AIB Canada Chapter Conference this August. I regularly attend AIB and try to attend AOM as well.
