Conference Theme: Central and Eastern Europe in Transition Again? Rethinking International Business in a Changing World
Event Overview: More than three decades after the collapse of state socialism, Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) remains a region of strong interest for international business scholarship. Once seen as a “natural laboratory” for studying institutional change and firm adaptation, CEE is now facing a new wave of geopolitical, technological, and sustainability-related challenges, which raise fundamental questions about the region’s evolving role in international business.
Against this backdrop, the 12th AIB-CEE Chapter Annual Conference invites scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to revisit whether – and how – CEE continues to offer distinctive insights for international business theory and practice. The conference will explore macro-, meso-, and micro-level dynamics shaping firms and institutions in the region, including geopolitical uncertainty, institutional diversity, upgrading trajectories, innovation, and changing business models.
