2025 Annual Compilation of IE Articles

The 2025 Annual Compilation of IE articles is here ! It includes 48 IE articles in 17 IE-friendly journals. The list (and details on methodology used to compile it) can be found in the Resources section of the ie-Scholars website.

Acknowledgments: This year’s summary was developed in collaboration with our IE Ambassadors, whose time, effort, and careful review made this work possible. We also warmly acknowledge the Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business for their initial support in compiling this list. Key contributors include Amitabh Anand, Maria Elo, Sascha Fürst, Jukyeong Han, Indianna Minto-Coy, and Lasse Torkkeli.

There are 48 IE articles included in our 2025 list. This is lower than last year, but still reflects a solid presence of international entrepreneurship research across journals.

Of the 48, included in the compilation five (~10%) were from the elite group of IE-friendly journals (4* or 4): one article in the Journal of Business Venturing and four articles in the Journal of World Business. The International Business Review (with 17 published IE articles) appears to be the most “IE-friendly” journal this year, followed by the Journal of Business Research (8 articles), Entrepreneurship and Regional Development (4 articles), and the Journal of World Business (4 articles). We found contributions from a variety of journals, reinforcing the field’s breadth and interdisciplinary reach.

We continue to see strong interest in topics such as institutions, entrepreneurial orientation, dynamic capabilities, and internationalization pathways. This year’s emerging themes include digitalization and artificial intelligence, gender and female entrepreneurship, founder characteristics, and cross-border networks and investment.
